Natives first this week. Along the roadsides there was plenty of mountain laurel to be seen
In CW I found this milkweed just starting to open.
The woods around town are full of these clusters of micro-grapes.
In the Williamsburg Library native plant garden:sweetbay magnolia
and lanceleaf tickseed.
And outside my office, the serviceberries have been loaded with tasty fruits.
Non natives to be seen around the burg were clematis,
poppy,
delphinium,
pomegranate,
peonies,
Japanese snowbell,
bletilla,
Japanese tree lilac,
and schizophragma.

I love Mt. Laurel, but it perplexes me how something that seemingly grows eawsily in the wild, is so difficult to grow under cultivation.
Ah, to be able to grow Mt. Laurel. I planted a Japanese Snowbell at a local church and it is one of the prettiest things I've ever seen. I don't know why it isn't more well known.
Love your shot of bletilla...pretty. We don't see much kalmia in the piedmont, though it will grow here. How nice to see it along the roadsides!
